An attestation d'hébergement is a document by which one person (the host) certifies that they accommodate another person (the guest) free of charge at their home. It serves as proof of residence for many procedures: renewing an ID card or passport, registering with France Travail, opening a bank account, or a file with the CAF or the prefecture. It is usually accompanied by the host's proof of identity and a proof of residence in their name. This form is in English, but the document is generated in French, ready to sign and use in France.

There is no fixed legal duration, but most administrations require an attestation dated less than 3 months old, accompanied by an equally recent proof of residence.

Yes, the attestation applies to any person accommodated free of charge, whether a family member, a partner or a third party. The relationship can be stated but is not mandatory.
What are the risks of a false attestation?
Drawing up a false attestation is punishable under article 441-7 of the Code pénal by one year's imprisonment and a 15,000 euro fine. The attestation must reflect a genuine situation.
